The LLY Duramax brought the variable vane turbo to the Duramax lineup, but these trucks also earned a reputation for fuel pressure regulator issues, injector harness problems, and running hot under load. A lot of LLY owners focus on fuel supply and airflow early because those are the areas that make the truck drive better.
Fuel system components, turbochargers, and exhaust systems are common upgrades on 2004-2005 LLY trucks because airflow and fuel pressure problems affect how these trucks tow and manage heat. If the truck spends time pulling heavy loads, the mouthpiece, cooling system, and fuel-pressure side deserve attention early.
